Front end vibrations!!!

Beitrag von fandaism »

Hello guys,,

I am really struggling with the vibrations of the front while light braking.
I really don't know what to do next.

Current status Corsaro veloce 2K18, 23xxx km driven
1. Already swapped old rotors for a new rotors NBC brand + new SBS pads -> no change
- Checked everything is tight, diassembled fron calipers, cleared, new fluid-> no impact
2. Bought another set of the different rotors -> no impact, still vibrations
3. Diassembled complete front end. Changed the old ball bearings for the new set of the tapered roller bearings. ->no impact.

The front end is still vibrating while light braking. When I heavily brake, it stops.

I really do not know what to focuse anymore, but it is so flustrating.
There is no play inside of the forks.
Can you guys please advice what could I focuse on?
I have no idea anymore, my knowledge ends here....

I really do not have any joy from the riding anymore...

Thanks
Maggi

Hello,

i could still imagine the wheel bearings as a possible cause?

I also have this phenomenon.... the discs hits me a bit, and the fork also hangs....

I bought a new brake disc, and I'll fix the fork in the winter. Then we'll see...

Hmm I did not check bearings, didn't have a reason for that. No racks or noise from inside, spins freely. I have a magnesium rims.
I have changed complete discs including bobbins.
Before instaling a set of new discs, I measured side runout of the wheel hub itself and i was up to 0,03mm.
Contact surfaces were clean.

So i guess my next steps will be:
1. Dismantle calipers and check them again.
2. Buy a new wheel bearings, but my bikes has 23K km so I really don't see a reason for that.
3. Measure each part separately, disc, bobbins, wheel hub for runout.
4. Check once more steering neck bearings, if it is tight enough, but I used same 30 Nm torque as always for tappered bearings.

Hi fandaism,

Did encounter the same problem you mentioned above in all details.
Slight front shaking when f.e. approaching a red traffic light, and not only once but always.

My Corsaro is equipped with EBC brake discs and Andreani fork cartridges, which so far worked perfecly since years.
All over sudden these low frequency shaking poped up when braking slightly.
Like you I did all kind of checks. No result found.

Finally I concluded as follows:
What has been done before to the front brake by me, was changing from the already elderly SBS brake pads via Brembo pads
finally to TRW SRT brake pads. Those pads delivered a fantastic brake response with low forces required, but ...

I finally changed back to Brembo brake pads (sinter metal) and the problem encountered was gone.

Resulting conciderations:
The combination of calipers with two different piston diameters (30/34mm) and high performance brake pads might result in
low frequency vibrations, when braking with low speed.
The same TRW brake pads combined with Moto Master discs and 32/32 mm Brembo calipers do not produce the described effect,
neither in MV Agusta Brutale 1090, nor in Triumph Tiger 1050 (radial Nissin calipers).

So, you may check into the brake pad story if you like.
Looking foreward to your feedback and experience.

Rgds, Axel
